It Doesn't Take Much to Bring Out Folks' Overt Racism -
I don’t follow hockey, but I do count myself as an inhabitant of the greater Boston area, and the overtly racist comments of some Bruins fans on twitter, and I am sure elsewhere, saddens, angers, and embarrasses me. I don’t care how angry you are, how many feelings you are having, about losing, using the n-word to attack the person who won the game for the other team is not ok.
If people think this is something ok to “say out loud” on twitter, I’m sure they are also thinking much worse things inside the privacy of their own heads, and that’s not ok either.
This was a major news story in the local free newspaper today. I hope that leads to actual productive dialogue. Though, realistically, I guess I don’t really expect it to.
